Since September is the month when Slovakia celebrates its national holiday, we thought we’d give you an insight into the AT&T team there. Our colleagues have been involved for years in local community work. Every year colleagues raise money to support social and health centres and to improve the lives of people using them.
Thanks to the donations of the AT&T Slovakia workforce:
- The pediatric oncological department of Kramare hospital received a computer, four LCD monitors, network setup and upgrade of old computers, health care equipment, office supplies and – importantly for the little ones – books, games, sweets and DVDs.
- A primary school that hosts visually impaired children received special chairs and tables adapted to their needs.
- A primary school for developmentally disabled children received an interactive board and software for language lessons, 13 computers to equip their PC room, and fairytale books just in time for Christmas.
In 2010, AT&T chose to help the foster home Studienka, which hosts 85 children from birth to 18 years of age. The mission of Studienka is to be a modern home for disadvantaged children and prepare them for adult life. Basic goods were needed: bedding, clothes and personal hygiene products. The AT&T team contributed through financial and material donations.
Then the project went a step further. AT&T colleagues not only made donations, they also contributed with their own time. On a sunny Saturday, 20 AT&T volunteers painted the fence surrounding the foster home. The children of Studienka also got involved in the programme. Ahead of Christmas they hand-crafted gifts for purchase by AT&T workers and a group of children visited AT&T offices where they gave a stage performance, showcasing their artistic talent. Who knows, perhaps some of these children will join our team in a few years time…
As part of the 2011 European Year of Volunteering, the AT&T team joined Nase Mesto (“our town”) the largest corporate volunteer project in Slovakia. This year’s event took place simultaneously on 17/18 June in six cities. 38 AT&T colleagues painted a skate park, cleaned the surroundings of the Plavecky castle, repaired a playground, repainted the walls of a kindergarten, and renovated a Scout residence. As you can see from the photographs below, they had good fun doing so!
