At AT&T, our employees’ spirit of service is at the heart of our company, extending their impact beyond the workplace and deep into our communities. That is why we are thrilled to have recently launched AT&T Believes UK & Ireland SM – a company-wide, locally-driven effort to create positive change in our communities. Our hope is that this initiative will create greater connection – with each other, with what people need to thrive in their everyday lives and with the stories and experiences that matter.
The work of the wide range of organizations that AT&T Believes UK & Ireland is supporting is inspiring. The Believes initiative in the region will help combat issues ranging from food insecurity and homelessness, to digital literacy. Through AT&T Believes UK & Ireland, we will aim to support a number of initiatives including young people’s cultivation of digital skills, the distribution of meals to homeless people, and the organization of a gardening project for the terminally ill. Our employees and our work through the initiative will focus on the on the needs of communities in London, Redditch, Portsmouth and Cork.
- The Passage will use the AT&T contribution to support the Primary Services Team who will volunteer in the Resource Centre Kitchen to provide hot food, showers, laundry facilities, and clean clothing to those that are homeless and depend on The Passage’s services for these basic necessities.
- AT&T’s support for Westminster City School will help to provide small group tutoring sessions to their most disadvantaged students following the forced closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project will identify those students most in need of academic support to ensure they progress in their learning.
In Redditch, we have chosen to support St Vincent de Paul Society, an organization that tackles poverty in all its forms by giving practical assistance to people in need.
- Also in Redditch, we will be working with Marie Curie, on a gardening project for the terminally ill, Where Next, a Greenhouse refurbishment project, and Dodford Holiday Farm, a community-led cleanup project.
In Cork, AT&T will be working with Cork Penny Dinners, a charity that supplies meals for homeless people in the city of Cork. AT&T’s funding will support the running of their kitchen throughout the year as they serve hot meals, provide bedding and clothing, and other basics to those who need the most help in their community.
- Also in Cork, we will be working with IMART to support a mixed ability (Special Needs) international Rugby Competition.
Other organizations AT&T Believes UK & Ireland is supporting include the AIRE Center, a legal charity that specializes in European Human Rights Law and Park Community School Projects, which provides meals for the most needy in the community in Portsmouth.
The launch of AT&T Believes UK and Ireland is an exciting opportunity for both our communities and our employees. AT&T Believes SM harnesses our employees’ generosity, supports it with company resources and joins with collaborators to make an even bigger impact on local communities and society. It began in 2018 when our employees in Chicago, Illinois identified nineteen neighbourhoods particularly affected by violence and high unemployment. Our employees coordinated a grassroots initiative focused on hiring, volunteerism, and contributions to lift the community by helping people find opportunities in education, careers, and life.
Since Believe Chicago SM launched, more communities have joined the Believe movement, with initiatives in thirty-eight localities across the United States. The model has adapted and been able taken on issues common across communities such as the COVID health crisis and now can make a positive impact on social equality. Most recently, we launched AT&T Believes Slovakia and Czech Republic and AT&T Believes India. As we grow so does our impact: last year our colleagues volunteered more than 1.4 million hours and gave nearly $30M to over 30,000 non-profit organisations across the world.
